Rabbi Nelly Altenburger
With a caring personality and a warm smile, Rabbi Nelly Altenburger has been part of the CBI community since 2006. She leads participatory services, with discussions related most times to the Torah portion. Rabbi Nelly Altenburger believes that Judaism and Hebrew should be experienced and enjoyed by children, and it is with that attitude that she leads Hebrew School. She is engaged in making Judaism accessible, provocative, transformative and participatory, and teaches all Adult Education classes with that in mind. Rabbi Nelly Altenburger crafts all life-cycle rituals by balancing between tradition and the needs of the people she is serving.
Rabbi Nelly Altenburger was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Hebrew Language and Literature from the University of Sao Paulo, she received her rabbinic ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinical Studies in Los Angeles.
She is passionate about opening Jewish tradition to you as you explore and find personal meaning in the texts and practices.
She has four wonderful children and an even more wonderful husband.
